Fonds Yann (Jean) LeDerff. – 1954, 1971-1975. – 10 cm of textual records

 

 

 

 

Biographical sketch:

 

Yann (Jean) LeDerff was born in La Rochelle (France) on 12 September 1932. He immigrated to Montreal on 17 May 1956. He held a variety of jobs while travelling the world, returning to Montreal in January 1971 and becoming an activist, notably with the Gay Liberation Front (1971-1972). He worked as a journalist for Le Nouveau samedi and published the books Homosexuel? Et pourquoi pas? (1973) and Homo libre (1974). He also wrote articles for Le Tiers, the magazine Omnibus under the pseudonym ‘‘Le Rêveur’’, and later contributed to the magazine RG. He organized the 1975 Saint-Jean-Baptiste celebration in Montreal, and asked Lise Payette to be the honorary president. LeDerff died in 2000.

 

 

Scope and content:

 

The fonds documents Yann LeDerff’s activities: lectures, participation in homosexual liberation associations and congresses.

 

The fonds contains reference documentation, a conference text, academic works, a dissertation and correspondence, particularly relating to the newsletter of the Front homosexuel québécois de libération.
