Fonds Pierre Hurteau. – 1876-1892, 1948-1956, 1976-1977. – 3 cm of textual records

 

 

 

 

Biographical sketch:

 

Pierre Hurteau was born in 1946 in Verdun, Quebec. After classical studies, he completed a degree in religious studies at the Université de Montréal. In 1970, he spent two years as a teacher in international cooperation in Cameroon. On his return, he continued to work for international development organizations, before embarking on a career in the Quebec civil service in 1978, first in social solidarity and then in health insurance. During his time in the public service, he completed a master’s degree in the history of religions, followed by a doctorate at Concordia University (Montreal), where he taught full-time for two years. He retired in 2006.

 

 

Scope and content:

 

The fonds contains photocopies of court documents, reports and transcripts, a CHAR press release and correspondence from organizations such as the ADGQ, the CNDH and the Ligue des Droits de l’Homme. These documents were used by Pierre Hurteau for his doctoral thesis (1991) and his article for the journal Histoire sociale ― Social History (1993).

Source of title proper: Title based on the contents of the fonds.

 

Immediate source of acquisition: The fonds was transferred to the AGQ in 1987 through Raynald Provost (acquisition 1987-11). The other part of the fonds was transferred to the AGQ in 1992 by the fonds’ creator (acquisition 1992-13).
