Fonds Robert Beauchamp. – 1925-12 September 2008. – 8 cm of textual records and other records.

 

 

Biographical sketch:

 

Robert Beauchamp is one of the co-founders of Librairie du Québec in Paris. He worked there from 1995 to 2000. His professional accomplishments include director at Artistica inc. (2006-2009), bookseller at Grand Ciel Bleu-Librairie du Nouvel-Ontario (2008-2009), and communications and social media manager at Librairie Monet (2010-2018). Robert Beauchamp has been an independent bookseller since 2019. He was also on the board of directors of the cooperative Les libraires for four years. He got hooked on the trade at the age of six, and his first job behind the counter of a small bookshop dates back to 1974.

 

 

Scope and content:

 

The fonds documents Robert Beauchamp’s activities in connection with the Association pour les droits des gai(e)s du Québec (ADQQ), the magazine Le Berdache, the Centre de services sociaux du Montréal métropolitain (homosexual clientele), and in connection with the raids on saunas between 1976 and [1991], on which he kept several police reports, statements and handwritten lists.

 

The fonds contains minutes, meeting agendas, press releases, newspaper cuttings, financial documents, typescripts, surveys, police reports, statements, a municipal by-law, a photocopied letter from Marthe Rosenfeld to Jeanne d’Arc Jutras, a copy of Yves Navarre’s speech, the second version of “L’ordre moral est passé par là…” and articles, including an academic paper. Several documents in the collection have been annotated by Robert Beauchamp.

Notes:

 

Source of title proper: Title based on the contents of the fonds.

 

Immediate source of acquisition: The fonds was transferred to the AGQ on 28 May 1995 by the fonds’ creator (acquisition 1995-013).

 

Language: The files are mainly in French, but some are in English.

 

Physical condition: Some documents have been placed in protective plastic sleeves for conservation purposes. The following files contain torn documents: S1/D2, S1/D4, S1/D5, S3/D2, S3/D6.
