Quebec Gay Archives fundraising campain 2020: a work of art as grand prize

2020 looked like it would be an exceptional year for the Archives, due to positive energy created by our move into a new suite of offices. In spite of the unforeseen lockdown, our accomplishments have been many this year and we have pursued with diligence the growth and the treatment of our collections. We have organized conferences and contributed to the production of documentary films.

Given the current health crisis, the Quebec Gay Archives find itself, like many non-profit organizations, in a precarious financial situation. Once again, we ask for your support during our annual fundraising campaign. This year, funds raised will be devoted to the maintenance of our usual high-quality services as well as to the continuing visibility of the Archives in the LGBTQ2S+ communities during the pandemic.

A WORK OF ART AS GRAND PRIZE

This year, the artist JJ Levine has graciously offered for this year’s draw a framed photographic work valued at $3650.

JJ Levine is a Montreal-based artist working in intimate portraiture. Levine is holds a Masters of Fine Arts in Photography from Concordia University. Mostly known for the series Queer Portraits, Alone Time, and Switch. Levine has been honoured with several awards and received grants from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Canada Council for the Arts. Levine’s work has been exhibited at galleries and art festivals across Canada, the United States, and Europe.

Alone Time is a series of brightly coloured photographs of couples sharing intimate interactions of domestic life; however, each “couple” proves to be a single model, appearing as both the male and female character in the same frame.

Every financial gift we receive is treasured by us, regardless of the amount. A tax receipt is given for any contribution of $25 or more. In addition, for each multiple of $50 you will receive one participation for the draw of a framed piece of art.

The Archives thank JJ Levine and Christine Redfern, director of the Ellephant gallery that represents JJ Levine’s work in Montreal. The work has been framed by Richard Contant of Encadrement Naide d’Amico.
